Organizations receiving money through the Granby Community Fund  

Holcomb Farm Learning Center - $17,000 – Manages the historic Holcomb Farm, operates a CSA providing food for over 700 families, grows and distributes fresh local produce to area Senior Citizen centers, is host to a variety of community organizations for meetings and events, and is a source of passive recreation to Granby and beyond.   

ARC of the Farmington Valley, Inc. (FAVARH) - $17,000 – Provides services/support to children & adults with intellectual & developmental disabilities.  FAVARH manages group homes, employment programs, Special Olympics Unified Sports, art & theater programs, recreation & leisure activities, family respite, school to work transition, and much more! 

YMCA - $12,500 – As a non-profit 501C(3) charitable organization, the Farmington Valley YMCA runs preschool, youth, teen, & adult programs that put the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility into practice to build a healthy spirit, mind & body for all participants.  This branch serves more than 5,000 Granby residents and has awarded more than $30,000 in scholarships to Granby residents. 

Granby Special Assistance Fund - $10,000 – An emergency family support program, administered by the Granby Director of Human Services that assists residents in a time of need when other resources are not available.  

Marquis of Granby - $8,000 – The Marquis of Granby is an historic recreation of a militia unit found in the Granby/Simsbury area from the time of the French and Indian War through the Revolutionary War.  Youngsters 9-19 represent Granby in 25-30 performances yearly throughout New England while keeping history alive. 

Meals on Wheels - $7,000 – Delivers two meals a day on weekdays to homebound individuals unable to shop or prepare meals, either on a temporary or permanent basis, regardless of age.  Regular and special diets are available.  No one is denied meals due to finances. 

Salvation Army - $6,000 – Granby Service Unit is available for immediate and/or emergency assistance, which includes Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets, clothing, medical, dental and optical care programs and fuel/utility assistance.  

Granby Land Trust - $4,000 – Founded in 1972, the Granby Land Trust seeks to preserve Granby’s rural character and quality of life by protecting the Town’s open spaces and vistas.  Through outright land acquisitions and development rights agreements, the Granby Land Trust conserves land for the enjoyment of both current residents and future generations. 

Granby Senior Van - $4,000 – Provides community van transportation, including wheelchair transportation, for Granby seniors. 

Parents for a Safe Graduation - $4,000 – Provides an all night graduation party for graduating seniors of Granby Memorial High School following the high school graduation ceremony each year, in a safe (drug and alcohol free) environment.  This program seeks to ensure the safety and well being of our children in celebrating their accomplishments.  

Red Cross - $2,000 – The Charter Oak Chapter of the American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization chartered by Congress, provides essential services.  This includes emergency services, such as emergency shelters, food and mental health assistance to victims of local disasters (fires, storms); life saving educational courses through its Health & Safety Services (First Aid & CPR).  Also included AFES and staffing of blood drives for the collection of life saving blood supply.  

Girls Scouts – Granby & Connecticut - $2,000 – Serves Daisy, Brownie, Junior, Cadet and Senior Girl Scouts in troops in Granby to participate in scouting activities.  

Boy Scouts - Granby - $1,000 - Supports the Cub Scout program in Granby. The Cub Scout program helps families with boys 6-10 years old to play and grow together. Boys have the opportunity to learn new skills, participate in community service projects and develop self-confidence while participating in fun family activities.  

Special Project Grants – Throughout the year the Granby Community Fund provides special, one-time funding grants to nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations that provide services to Granby residents.
